China stakes claim to S. Texas oil, gas

HOUSTON — State-owned Chinese energy giant CNOOC is buying a multibillion-dollar stake in 600,000 acres of South Texas oil and gas fields, potentially testing the political waters for further expansion into U.S. energy reserves.
With the announcement Monday that it would pay up to $2.2 billion for a one-third stake in Chesapeake Energy assets, CNOOC lays claim to a share of properties that eventually could produce up to half a million barrels a day of oil equivalent.
It also might pick up some American know-how about tapping the hard-to-get deposits trapped in dense shale rock formations, analysts said.

This make me wonder two things:

1. How do the Islamists feel about China
2. Had we gone into Iraq and Afghanistan with more force and less concern for infrastructure would we have been able to have that conflict (for lack of a better word) locked up and over with.  In turn gaining a bit more respect from other countries.

Maybe China would be less confident if they knew we still had what it takes to drop a nuke if we had to.

Historically MIGHT MAKES RIGHT every time.  Which perspective of right is neither here nor there.  Each side thinks they are right.

We never worried about infrastructure in WW2.  In 4 raids, 1,300 heavy bombers dropped more than 3,900 tons of high explosive bombs and incendiary devices on the city, the Baroque capital of the German state of Saxony.  The resulting firestorm destroyed 15 square miles of the city center.

We never worried about offend a religion, not even when at the time our own country was mostly Christian.  We still blew the steeples off churches in order to avoid snipers.

The vets I had the opportunity to speak with a few years back were all in agreement, they don't understand how we are fighting this war.  I suppose that's mainly due to the fact the region has a precious resource we need.

Drill Domestic!  Pay off the Chinese!  Drop a big Bomb on our enemies!  If that sounds too harsh then from a historical perspective we are in trouble.
